Rancho Buena Vista alum and current Penn Stater Bernie Truax finishes in 5th place in 2024 NCAA Wrestling

Graduate Bernie Truax, the No. 6 seed at 184, battled No. 4 Trey Munoz of Oregon State in the consolation semifinals. Truax and Munoz worked the middle of the mat in Neutral to start the bout. Munoz moved behind Truax for a takedown :30 into the bout and then caught the Lion in a throw. He took him to the mat and finished off the pin at 2:29. The loss moved Truax to the fifth place bout.
 
He met No. 2 Isaiah Salazar of Minnesota for fifth place. The duo battled in neutral through the 2:00 mark. Truax worked his way in on a shot and took a 3-0 lead with a takedown at the 1:46 mark. He forced Salazar into a first stall warning while working his time edge up over 1:00. He controlled the action to finish on top and led 3-0 with 1:46 in riding time after one period. Truax chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 4-0 lead. He countered a slight Salazar shot for a second takedown and a 7-0 lead with 1:10 left in the stanza. He picked up a stall point as his time moved up over 2:00. He finished the period on top again and led 8-0 with 2:48 in time. Salazar chose neutral to start the final period. With riding time clinched, Truax went to work in the center of the mat and connected on a third takedown to up his lead to 11-0. Truax once again dominated the Gopher from the top position. He ended the period on top and, with over 3:00 in riding time, capped off a stellar collegiate career with a 12-0 major over Salazar. Truax went 5-2 over the weekend and became a four-time All-American with a fifth place finish. He ended his final season with a 19-6 record and finished with an 86-27 mark.

Mission Hills 8 San Dieguito Academy 6 The Grizzlies of Mission Hills scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th and won 8-6 score. Dylan Bebee is the winner. 

Orange Glen 3 Liberty Charter 2 OG:  The Patriots of Orange Glen came back from a 2-1 deficit as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.  1 run scored each for Orange Glen are by Adrian Garcia, Aiden Gomez and Oscar Gonzales. 

Escondido Charter 5 Tri City Christian 4 EC:  The White Tigers of Escondido Charter broke a 4-4 tie as they scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th and won by a 5-4 score.  Joey Seavello 2 singles 2 runs scored.  J Esquival 1 run scored.  Matthew Hyder 1 run scored.  N Radford 1 run scored.

Rancho Buena Vista alum Bernie Truax qualifies for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament finished 2nd in the Big 10

Graduate Bernie Truax, ranked No. 6 at 184, met No. 5 Isaiah Salazar of Minnesota in the 184 final. Truax and Salazar set up shop in the middle of the mat as the bout got underway. Truax worked to control position in the center, taking a high single that Salazar defended at 1:45. Action continued through the 1:00 mark in neutral with Truax the aggressor. The bout moved to the second period tied 0-0. Truax chose down to start the period and escaped to a 1-0 lead at 1:20. The clock moved below the :30 mark with both wrestlers working for control in the center of the mat. Salazar worked his way in on a high shot late, but Truax defended the effort and led 1-0 after two. Salazar chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to a 1-1 tie. Truax shot low, quickly, but Salazar was able to slip out of his gras at 1:10. The duo traded quick bursts through the 1:00 mark and returned to their feet with :50 left in the bout. Salazar took a high shot again and Truax muscled through a counter as the clock moved below the :10 mark. The clock hit :00 and the bout moved to extra time. Truax nearly connected on a counter at 1:40, another shot at 1:35 and a third at 1:20. But Salazar countered the last shot and was able to notch the takedown. Truax gave up back points working to get free and lost the hard-fought 8-1 (sv) decision.
