Jeff Meyer sets goals for 2nd year at RBV

Jeff Meyer son of former El Camino football coach readies for 2nd season at RBV

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Wednesday, August 16, 2017-Rancho Buena Vista High School-Vista, CA:  After a rebuilding year of 3-7 Jeff Meyer will be starting his second year with the Longhorns of Rancho Buena Vista High School and has a lot of positions to fill.

Assistant Head Football Coach Mike Darlington along with Head Coach Jeff Meyer spoke about the team.
Head Coach Mike Darlington:  “We are going to be a solid football squad and will run the ball very well this year and will be decent on defense.”
Coach Meyer: Quarterbacks  “We have three individuals who are battling for the quarterback job in Scott Meyer, Shane Thompson and Matt Lleneras we will sort that position out as soon as we get to the first game against Irvine High School.”
Coach Meyer ” Running Backs:  “We have Dorian Richardson who will be starting along with backup Hunter Epps back from last year up from the JV squad last year as they will be explosive in the backfield.”
Coach Meyer:  “Offensive Line”  “Our offensive line is learning a little bit as we return Edgar Robles along with other returning players in as Will Osterhaus, Zach Gonzales Chris Christie.”
Coach Darlington:  Defensive Line  “We should be more athletic then what we have been before in years past, we have decent size but won’t be big but we should take in quite a few returning players in Alex Diverde at inside linebacker, Will McNeary at outside linebacker, at defensive line we have Austin Sunseri, defensive back Isaiah Moore and Jordan Roberts.”
Coach Meyer:  “For kicking and punting that will be a tossup as we have Nick Flete, Arturro Arreguin and Dan Rogozinski 1 might punt, 1 might do PAT’s and 1 might kickoff as they are all battling for the jobs on the football team”
Coach Meyer: ” We open up our first game against Irvine High School from the Southern Section they have been up and down and in numbers, they are down but their coach does a good job.”  “Our second game we play Westview up here as we defeated them as their place last year on a blocked field goal they will come back to our place and will give us revenge as our first couple of games will be battle tests for us and to show us how great of a football team were going to be.”

Joe Early ready for 16th year at Palomar

Joe Early ready for his 16th season at Palomar Junior College

By David A. Willauer-Palomar College-San Marcos, CA Wednesday, August 16, 2017:  Joe Early will be ready for his 16th year as the head football coach at  the Comets Palomar College and carries a career record of 86-63 and has built up the program very well along with 2 conference titles.  After 2 losing seasons of 4-6, Coach Early knows what to expect for the upcoming season.

Coach Joe Early:  “We have quite a few people watching us practice after a year since we were on our field, and have encouraging some guys to do get the job done but is also a learning process as we are getting close but not where we are as of yet but we have to prepare vs. Southwestern College in 3 weeks.”
“At quarterback, Matt Romero will be our primary starter for us this year he started for us last season and Ross Ebert will be one of the backups for us.” “Ross has come back is stronger and bigger after a year under his belt for us, we anticipated both quarterbacks to do well but Matt is currently our starter.”  said Coach Early.
“At running back, Josh Bernard hasn’t practiced due to grades but we have other outstanding backs in Isaiah Guerrero, who was all conference returner for us last year along with Currie Thomasson who is our big sized back and will give him the ball when we needed to we have 2 smaller scatback backs that will help us when we need them in Zack Goodkin who has comes to us from LaCosta Canyon, if we happen to get Josh Bernard back that will solidify and straighten our running backs.” said Coach Early
“At wide receiver we lost Robert Ursua as he is playing Division I, but we return Chase Olsen a redshirt tight end last year and is more of an open set player along with Blake Adamson who is a big athlete who also plays basketball never had the football experience but has a big body and Trevor Gurski who is a 6’6″ freshman coming in who has a lot of potential we’re young as far as playing experience is concerned which will be a wait and see .”  “We have 7 or 8 guys that are talented at those positions we are going to keep some fresh players on our roster that will help us to get into situations in the 3rd or 4th period of the football game last year we didn’t have the depth at wide receiver.” said coach Early.
“On the offensive line we have Mike Childress and Josh Pichette back from last year Preston Johnson who redshirted for us last year is back with us hasn’t been a full going as he is taking it slow before he puts the pads on had some shoulder surgery waiting to be cleared for full contact Prab Gill was a part timer last year we have good size but with the offensive line that is a continuity thing they have to play together and to play with a lot of reps our big thing is to get confidence with our squad.”  said Coach Early.
“On defense we return J D Foxx who redshirted last year, had an excellent camp for us  are excited to have him back Chandler Wachholtz  who played for us last year will be back were going to be young as far as the defensive line we have young guys coming in and learning the system Carter Couch is a defensive end and Malo Malo who father used to play for us at Palomar on the back side of the defense we have some injuries we don’t have the same secondary in their the entire time but once when we get everyone healthy will improve a lot on defense our players are young and are learning the system well along with the experience at playing those positions for us during the season
