5 players Spark Fallbrook in homecoming win over Orange Glen

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-10-30-15-Warriors Stadium-Fallbrook High School-Fallbrook, CA-In tonight’s homecoming contest tonights Halloween Title was called “Nightmare on Warrior Way” but the Warriors of Fallbrook at 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the Valley League found out a way to win and they did as they defeated the Patriots of Orange Glen by a 69-7 score.

Parker Martin (2 carries for 69 yards) ran touchdown runs of 66, 3 yards each and caught a pass of 37 yards from QB Jack Grantham (1 completion out of 1 attempt for 37 yards) Jamie Nichols 1 reception for 15 yards) scored on a 15 yard run Nahshon Hagen ran a interception for 25 yards for a touchdown Jack Henenberg (5 carries for 92) scored touchdown runs of 4, 1 and 73 yards. Mark Lindsay (9 carries for 73 yards) scored 2 touchdown runs of 31 and 14 yards.

Falbrook Head Football Coach Kyle Williams on the win vs. Orange Glen: “We played for a share of the league title tonight our kids were hungry after last weeks 21-0 win over San Pasqual, our squad played with great energy and toughness as they knew how to play together as a football team they came out tonight thinking it wasn’t about the opponent it’s all about us and we won 2 games in a row as I challenged our kids to be the storm.” ” Early in the game we had to take any hope out of their minds an tonight we did that by scoring on the second.” “Our defense came up with 2 interceptions one of them went for a touchdown and we had a punt return down to the 1 yard line with lot of things that has set us up for the victory we were proud and happy for our guys like Josh Hennenberg, Gino Yslas, Michael Lindsay, those individuals don’t carry the ball very much for us but they have a lot of expectations with the reserves in the game and I’m proud of their performance as in Parker Martin as he has contributed for us in the first half we’re trying to not run the score up but had to slow things down in the second half we can’t help it if we run basic plays but it is wonderful to get him back as he is a transfer from Alaska a huge spark plug for our football team he has done well for us.”

“Our next opponent is Del Norte has defeated us 3 years in a row it has been very close games but I haven’t seen them on film as of yet but will find out after I look at it on Saturday.”

Orange Glen’s 4-5 only touchdown came in he 4th quarter as quarterback Blaine Berry (5 completions out of 14 attempts for 115 yards) threw an 85 yard pass to Ty Dixon with the PAT good by Ray Poultsey.

NIU Wrestling: Red Edges Black in Huskie Wrestle-Offs

Red won 19-12 in the annual NIU wrestling Red/Black Dual. Full results listed below.

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team held its annual Red/Black Dual on Friday night at the Victor E. Court, with the Red Team winning by a score of 19-12 after eight wrestle-off matches between the Huskies.

Following the event, NIU wrestling head coach Ryan Ludwig discussed the challenges of wrestling against teammates at his early stage of the season, which was something he felt the Huskies overcame well on Friday night.

“Up and down the lineup our guys competed well. I’m pleased with the effort and competitive spirit. It’s tough to pull that trigger sometimes when you know your opponent so well, but we didn’t see a lot of that tonight,” Ludwig said. “We saw guys going out looking to score and attack at all times, and we’re happy with that.”

The Red/Black Dual started and finished with bonus point matches. Heavyweight Arthur Bunce (Munith, Mich./Dansville) earned the Black Team six points with a pin in the second period of the night’s opening contest, while 197-pounder and returning NCAA qualifier Shawn Scott (Holly, Mich./Holly) concluded the event with a dominant technical fall victory that earned the Red Team six points and clinched the victory for his team.

NIU Wrestling: Huskies Set for Red/Black Dual on Friday Night

NIU will hold eight wrestle-offs at Victor E. Court ahead of the 2015-16 season.

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team will hold its annual Red-Black Dual as the Huskies match up against their own teammates in wrestle-offs during the team’s intra-squad scrimmage on Friday night at Victor E. Court at 7 p.m.

After weeks of preparation in the NIU wrestling room, the Huskies Friday’s Red-Black Dual will feature the following eight matchups:

HWT: Caleb Gossett (Red) vs. Arthur Bunce (Black)
125: Alijah Jeffery (Red) vs. Kirk Johansen (Black)
141: Steve Bleise (Red) vs. Sal Annoreno (Black)
149: Austin Culton (Red) vs. Gabe Morse (Black)
157: Caden McWhirter (Red) vs. Andrew Morse (Black)
165: Shaun’Qae McMurtry (Red) vs. Andrew Scott (Black)
184: Quinton Rosser (Red) vs. Michael Aldrich (Black)
197: Shawn Scott (Red) vs. Luke Greenberg (Black)

NIU wrestling head coach Ryan Ludwig has been pleased with what he’s seen from the Huskies in practice this week leading up to the Red/Black Dual, and he outlined what he would like from his team on Friday night.

“We have seen some heated competition and hard wrestling throughout the prelims this week. We expect to see even more on Friday night,” Ludwig said “Our focus is identifying the individuals who work to dominate the pace and score points. Hanging back is not going to get it. The mindset needs to be relentless pursuit of scoring opportunities and constant improvements in all positions.”

Coming off a 10-12 dual record in 2014-15, the NIU wrestling team will use Friday’s exhibition to help the Huskies prepare for the quick turnaround the team faces before it opens this season at the EMU Duals next Saturday with four challenging dual matches in Ypsilanti, Mich. NIU will face Purdue, Clarion, Bloomsburg and Edinboro throughout the day on Nov. 7, and Friday’s matches will go some ways towards determining what lineup the team utilizes in those marquee matchups against Big Ten and Eastern Wrestling League opposition.

As a reminder, admission is FREE for all fans to Friday’s NIU wrestling Red-Black Dual at Victor E. Court.

SUBJECT: Wilmington Men’s Soccer Captures CACC Regular Season Crown With 7-0 Victory at Georgian Court in Regular Season Finale
DATE: October 29, 2015
djl
LAKEWOOD, N.J. – – The Wilmington University men’s soccer team captured it second ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Regular Season Championship with a 7-0 victory in the regular season finale at Georgian Court on Thursday afternoon.
The Wildcats (14-2, 9-2 CACC) used nine different point getters to snap a two-game losing streak and capture sole possession of the CACC Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2009. The Wildcats already had the No. 1 seed in next weeks CACC Tournament wrapped up, but needed at least a point today to ensure sole possession of the regular season crown.
With the loss, Georgian Court (7-6-2, 4-4-2 CACC) must win at Caldwell on Friday afternoon to earn a spot in the CACC Tournament.
The scoring started early for the Wildcats, as they quickly gained a 3-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of play, with all three goals coming in a span of 6:03. Senior Lance Berry opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the year, heading home a corner quick opportunity from Geoff Velasquez just 7:56 into the match.
The teams leading goal scorer, Clifford Nwechefom was up to the task three minutes later, as he converted a back heel pass from Berry into this 15th goal of the year 10:56 into the match. Berry was at it again moments later, as he found the back of the net once again on a header, this time being the recipient of a cross form the left side from Velasquez 13:59 into the match for his 11th of the season.
Not to be out done, Nwechefom responded with his second goal of the game in the 30th minute, getting on the end of a cross from Adrian Tash to tally his 16th of the season. The Wildcats went into the halftime break leading 4-0.
Three different Wildcats recorded goals in the second half, as Steven O’Connor connected for his fifth of the season in the 51st minute. Senior defender Jo Woodley got in on the scoring action, scoring his first collegiate career goal in the 69th minute, finishing the end of the free kick from Joe Boulter. Junior Morgan Shutter tallied his first goal as a Wildcat in the 75th minute, capping the scoring on a breakaway from Jamie Burridge.
The Wildcats outshot the Lions, 20-13, putting nine of those shots on frame. Frank Hall recorded his seventh shut out of the season by making six saves, tying the program mark set by Dan Mangat (2007) and Duhan Malali (2009).
The Wildcats will host the No. 8 seed in the CACC Tournament First Round on Monday at the WU Athletics Complex, with the No. 8 seed to be determined following Friday’s action.
Since Monday will be a part of the CACC Tournament, admission will be taken at the gate. The fee to enter the WU Athletics Complex will be $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children and senior citizens. Any Wilmington University student with a valid ID and children under the age of three will be admitted for free.
The opening whistle is set for 2:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

Goldey-Beacom Men’s Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Victory Over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom dominated Holy Family from the opening whistle and cruised to a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family in Wilmington, DE to end the regular season.

Sophomore Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) got things going for the Lightning with his second goal of the season.  He took a deflection from sophomore Manuel Berto (Valencia, Spain) and knocked in a 10-yard shot in the 14th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) continued his standout campaign in the 32nd minute, banging home a 15-yard shot for a 2-0 margin and his third goal of the year.

GBC added an insurance marker in the 80th minute when sophomore Omar Hernandez (West Grove, PA/Avon Grove) fed a great ball to freshman Callum Flynn (Guildford, England), who calmly found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

Not to be forgotten was the great play of freshman goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), who came up with seven saves that included many incredible stops.  He now has 66 saves this season, good for eighth best in school history.

Silvestre and junior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) each had three shots for the Lightning, who posted a 14-10 shots edge.

Mariano Cepeda fired three shots and Richard Ongaro came up with three saves over 31 minutes for the Tigers (5-12-1, 5-7 CACC).

The win kept GBC (7-11, 5-7) alive in its hope of making the CACC Tournament, but it will have to sit and scoreboard watch.  In order to make it, Georgian Court must lose its game Saturday morning at Caldwell and Nyack must either lose or tie its game Friday to Post.

Thu, October 29, 2015

PHILADELPHIA – The 2015-16 University of Pennsylvania wrestling season is less than two weeks from officially beginning with the first competition of the season as the Quakers take to the mats at the Binghamton Open, and the Red and Blue will line up seven wrestlers who have achieved a national ranking inside their weight class based on preseason rankings from national wrestling publications.

C.J. Cobb – 149 pounds
Intermat: No. 7
FloWrestling: No. 8
TheOpenMat: No. 9
WrestlingReport.com: No. 9
Amateur Wrestling News: No. 10

A consensus Top-10 wrestler entering the season, C.J. Cobb is coming off a Round of 12 finish at NCAAs in 2015. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Cobb has twice placed at EIWAs – including a runner-up finish in 2013. Last season, Cobb went 23-7 and was 11-1 in dual meets.

Lorenzo Thomas – 184 pounds
Intermat: No. 10
FloWrestling: No. 10
Amateur Wrestling News: No. 10
WrestlingReport.com: No. 10
TheOpenMat: No. 11
WIN Magazine: No. 19

Another all-but consensus Top-10 wrestler, Lorenzo Thomas is the most experienced wrestler in Penn’s lineup entering the season. An NCAA All-American in 2014, Thomas has qualified for two national championship tournaments and has won seven matches at the national tournament over his career. He enters the season with 81 career wins, 19 away from becoming the 11th wrestler in program history to reach the 100-win mark.

Caleb Richardson – 133 pounds
FloWrestling: No. 15
Intermat: No. 17
Amateur Wrestling News: No. 17
WIN Magazine: No. 17
TheOpenMat: No. 19
WrestlingReport.com: No. 22

A two-time NCAA qualifier, Caleb Richardson has been crossing off achievements throughout his first two years as a Quaker with placements at the Southern Scuffle and Midlands to go with a first-team All-Ivy selection and a podium finish at EIWAs. Last season, he was 26-11 overall and 9-3 in dual meets, and earned his second at-large bid to NCAAs where he defeated No. 9 A.J. Schopp – eventual third place finisher – in the first round and was knocked out via a pair of sudden victory losses.

Frank Mattiace – 197 pounds
Flowrestling: No. 18
Amateur Wrestling News: No. 18
TheOpenMat: No. 19
WrestlingReport.com: No. 24

After a year off from competition, Frank Mattiace returns to the mat at 197 pounds and has caught the eyes of various national pollsters who have ranked him between No. 18-24 to begin the season. In his freshman season of 2013-14, Mattiace finished eighth at EIWAs and was the ESU Open champion.

Casey Kent – 174 pounds
Flowrestling: No. 16
TheOpenMat: No. 17
Amateur Wrestling News: No. 18
WrestlingReport.com: No. 23

Casey Kent missed the 2014-15 season with injury, and returns up a weight for the 2015-16 campaign. A NCAA qualifier in 2014 at 165 pounds, Kent is a two-time All-Ivy selection and is 20-5 all-time in dual meets. In 2014, he led all Quakers with four wins against Top-20 opponents during the season, and he has been a bonus-point machine for the Quakers with 18 of his 41 career wins coming by major decision, technical fall, or pin.

Brooks Martino – 157 pounds
WIN Magazine: No. 20

2014-15 was a breakthrough year for Martino as he came on strong down the stretch to claim sixth place at EIWAs and an automatic bid to his first NCAA Championships. A second-team All-Ivy selection last season, Martino was 11-5 against EIWA foes and had three wins by fall.

Ray Bethea – 165 pounds
WrestlingReport.com: No. 24

Arguably one win away from a berth to NCAAs last season, Ray Bethea was 14-7 last season while battling injury. He went 3-3 at EIWAs, finishing sixth. A second-team All-Ivy selection and ESU Open champion in 2013-14, Bethea has scored bonus points in 10 of his 38 career victories.

As a team, Penn was receiving votes in the first USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll.

After opening at the Binghamton Open on November 8, Penn returns to The Palestra on November 22 for the Keystone Classic. Tickets for the Keystone Classic and all Penn home dual meets are on sale now.

SOCCER: HORNETS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH A SCORELESS TIE AT HOWARD

Courtesy DSU Athletic Media Relations
Wed, October 28, 2015

(Washington, D.C.) – The Delaware State women’s soccer team (6-9-3) wrapped up the 2015 regular season Wednesday night settling for its second consecutive scoreless tie, this time on the road with the Howard Bison (11-7-1).

With this tie, the Hornets moved to 3-14-1 all-time against HU, whereas Wednesday night’s tie snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bison.

Throughout the evening, Howard lived up to its calling card on the offensive end, totaling 22 shots, including 11 in the second period.  Coming in, the Bison had 62 goals under their belts, compared to 24 for the Hornets.

Nevertheless, DSU was able to keep the Bison scoreless for the fourth time this season, led by goalkeeper Michele Lammers (6-9-3) collecting eight saves.  With this effort, Lammers pushed her yearly shutout total to four, tying Tara McQueene and Katelyn Koslosky for most in DSU single-season history.

Offensively the Hornets, meanwhile, featured forward Bri Musco registering three out of her squad’s seven shots, including two placed on-goal.  Delaware State was also held scoreless for the ninth time this season.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will head Florence, S.C. to defend their Independent Conference Tournament crown this weekend as the top seed, beginning with the Hampton Pirates on Friday at 4 p.m.  Depending on the outcome, DSU will play the winner or loser of Francis Marion and South Carolina State Sunday afternoon.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cal Poly to Open 2015-16 Wrestling Season Outdoors by Hosting Stanford on Monday
— Cal Poly Wrestling —
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly opens its fifth wrestling season under the guidance of Brendan Buckley on Monday with an outdoor Pac-12 dual meet against Stanford.
First bout begins at 3 p.m. in the University Union plaza. It will be Cal Poly’s third outdoor dual meet, following a 2014 match against Oregon State and a 2015 dual against CSU Bakersfield.
While none of the eight returning Mustang starters is ranked nationally at the start of the season, Stanford will bring three nationally ranked matmen.
True freshman Joey McKenna is ranked No. 13 at 141 pounds, junior Jim Wilson is ranked No. 4 at 165 pounds and sophomore Nathan Butler is ranked No. 15 at 285 pounds.
Wilson, a team captain and two-time Pac-12 champion, placed eighth in last year’s NCAAs to earn All-America honors and opens his third campaign with the Cardinal with a 69-15 record.
Butler was 29-9 and a Pac-12 champion a year ago.
Cal Poly’s group of eight returning starters — those who wrestled in at least six duals and competed in the Pac-12 Championship — is led by sophomore Colton Schilling, 21-11 with 12 falls at 141 pounds a year ago, and junior Travis Berridge, 18-15 with three falls at 165 pounds.
Jason DelaCruz posted an 8-8 mark at 133 pounds last year while Spencer Empey, a redshirt a year ago, was 13-12 as a true freshman in the 2013-14 season.
Cal Poly’s roster also features a dozen newcomers, three of whom earned victories over returning veterans in the Green and Gold Meet last Sunday. David Gonzalez at 125 pounds, Joshy Cortez at 149 and Andrew Morgan at 174 all posted wins in their first matches as Mustangs.
“We have a lot more experience across the lineup this year,” said Buckley. “We have a lot of returning guys who have varsity experience and Pac-12 experience. Plus there are some good leaders on this team.
“The team has been working incredibly hard on many fronts this fall and the coaching staff is very pleased with the group that we have and the effort they have given,” Buckley added. “We have excellent leadership and a large commitment from our veteran wrestlers and a strong freshmen class.
“I am really looking forward to the upcoming season.”
The Mustangs own a 39-17-1 advantage against Stanford, though the Cardinal earned a 24-9 win two years ago in the Mott Athletics Center and a 22-13 triumph last year inside Maples Pavilion, winning five of the last six matches after the Mustangs jumped to an early 10-7 lead. The Cardinal, under eighth-year head coach Jason Borelli, has won five straight duals against Cal Poly.

Godwin Added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List

Sophomore wide out among the candidates for the nation’s top receiver

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Oct. 28, 2015 – Sophomore wide receiver Chris Godwin (Middletown, Del.) has been added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list for the nation’s top receiver. Godwin joins teammate and fellow sophomore DaeSean Hamilton (Fredericksburg, Va.) on the list.

The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely outstanding wide receiver.

Bobby Engram was the inaugural award winner in 1994 and is the only Penn State player to claim the honor.

Godwin leads the Nittany Lions with 34 catches for 628 yards. He also had a pair of touchdown catches on the season. Godwin ranks 27th in FBS in yards per reception (18.47), 30th in receiving yards and 41st yards per game (78.5). He has caught at least four passes in eight of his last nine games, dating back to last season, and has at least one reception in 20 of his 21 collegiate games.

The Middletown, Delaware native is coming off his second-straight 100-yard game with 135 yards on four catches with a touchdown against Maryland. He also had 103 yards on three catches at No. 1 Ohio State. Godwin is the first Nittany Lion with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Allen Robinson in 2013 (106 vs. Nebraska; 122 at Wisconsin).

The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 10, 2015, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast 7-9 p.m. on ESPN. College Football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will present the 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.

The Nittany Lions return to Beaver Stadium after a two-game road trip to host Illinois Saturday at noon. The game will air on ESPN2, the Penn State Sports Network (10:30 a.m. pregame) and GoPSUsports.com.

Tickets for the Nittany Lions’ last two home games are available. Penn State hosts Illinois Saturday and Michigan on Nov. 21 for Senior Day and the Penn State WhiteOut. To purchase tickets or for more information, fans can visit PSUnrivaled.com, call 1-800-NITTANY or visit the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office weekdays from 10 a.m-6 p.m.
