Goldey Beacom Soccer

Lorenzo Gama’s Two Goals Keeps Goldey-Beacom Men’s Soccer Rolling With 3-1 Win at Chestnut Hill

Junior Lorenzo Gama (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored twice to help Goldey-Beacom extend three important streaks and end another in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Chestnut Hill in Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the 25th minute grabbed a crucial 1-0 lead.  Junior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) got the ball and put a shot inside the left post for his personal-best fourth goal of the season and seventh career.

Gama then was just getting warm by scoring in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 lead, taking a pass from freshman Nicolas Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) and finding the back of the net.  The Griffins got one back with 1:37 left in the half when Lindsay Murdoch headed one in, cutting the margin to 2-1.

Gama restored the Lightning’s two-goal lead in the 67th minute to secure his first career brace.  He got the ball and beat goalkeeper James Jackson in a one-on-one situation for his second goal of the season and third career.

GBC (6-1-1, 4-0-1 CACC) extended its best overall start in school history, its best conference start in team annals, ran its unbeaten streak to six (5-0-1) for the first time since it won six straight in 2002 and ended its six-game skid vs. Chestnut Hill.

The Lightning moved to the top of the table in the CACC, one point better than Concordia (4-1) and Georgian Court (4-1).  GBC already has defeated both this season.

Gama attempted four shots and sophomore Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), the two-time reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, made three saves for the Lightning.

Jason Doherty took four shots and Jackson closed with eight saves for the Griffins (1-7, 0-5).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Felician as part of a doubleheader with the women’s team.  The men’s game starts after 3:15 pm, which follows the women’s 1:00 pm contest.

Jordan and Medbery selected as NWCA All-Stars
Seniors are first honorees for Wisconsin since 2008

On the Web: http://go.wisc.edu/8358×4

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin seniors Isaac Jordan and Connor Medbery have already established themselves as elite members of the Wisconsin wrestling program. On the brink of a new season, the two returning All-Americans have been invited to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association All-Star Classic.

On Wednesday, the NWCA announced the lineups for the 2016 NWCA All-Star Classic, which will be held on Nov. 5 in Cleveland, Ohio. The NWCA All-Star Classic is hosted by Wrestlers in Business Network and brings 20 of collegiate wrestling’s finest contenders together in one place.

Jordan and Medbery become the 21st and 22nd all-time UW selections to compete as NWCA All-Stars. It’s just the fourth time in program history that Wisconsin has had multiple invitees in one year and the first time more than one Badger has been invited since 1980.

Medbery is just the second UW heavyweight to be chosen for this prestigious event. The first was Kyle Massey in 2008, who was Wisconsin’s last NWCA All-Star.

Jordan is also just the second 165-pounder to compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic for Wisconsin. Donny Pritzlaff, a two-time NCAA title holder, is the only other representative of the 165-pound class in UW history.

Jordan is set to take on Missouri’s Daniel Lewis at 165 pounds, while Medbery will face Virginia Tech’s Ty Walz in the heavyweight bout.
